JOB SUMMARY:
Baler and recyclers are responsible for operating and maintaining baling and recycling equipment within the manufacturing facility. A key aspect of this role entails handling, compressing, and packaging different types of materials (including cardboard, plastic, metal, and paper) for recycling and disposal in an environmentally friendly manner. Balers and recyclers play a significant role in reducing waste and achieving sustainability targets in manufacturing. In addition, the person in this role will operate forklifts, trailer switching equipment, and a switcher truck.
Work Schedule: Monday -Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm (OT as needed)

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and write in English
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or recycling environment is preferred
- Experience with baling or compacting equipment is a plus.
- Forklift certification.
- Operate yard switcher truck.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of baling/recycling equipment.
- 3+ years of experience in a material handling or warehouse environment, preferably in a manufacturing setting; prior leadership experience preferred.
- Proficiency in foundational math skills necessary for inventory management, including counting, basic arithmetic (addition and subtraction), and unit conversions
- Certified forklift operator with experience in handling various types of forklifts, including sit-down, stand-up, and reach trucks.
- Train and mentor material handling team members, providing guidance on best practices for safety, productivity, and organization.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and operational procedures for forklift operation
- Strong attention to detail for sorting, processing, and maintaining records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
- Basic record-keeping abilities.
- Flexibility to work overtime hours as needed.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift and maneuver heavy objects, including pallets and containers.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate and monitor balers to compress recyclable materials into compact bales for transport and recycling. Follow all safety protocols when handling machinery.
- Sort, segregate, and prepare various recyclable materials (cardboard, plastics, metals, etc.) for baling or disposal. Remove contaminants and ensure only approved materials are baled.
- Move materials from production lines to the baler area, utilizing forklifts or other transport equipment as necessary. Safely stack and store completed bales for pickup.
- Load completed bales onto trailers.
- Move trailers to/from drop yard as needed.
- Conduct daily inspections of baling and recycling equipment. Perform minor maintenance and cleaning tasks, and promptly report any mechanical issues to the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of baled and recycled materials, including weights, counts, and types of materials processed. Provide documentation as required for waste management and recycling reports.
- Adhere to all safety and environmental regulations, including proper use of PPE, to maintain a safe workplace. Immediately report any safety hazards or incidents.
- Ensure that baled materials meet company standards for recycling and waste reduction. Perform quality checks to ensure no non-recyclable items are baled.
- Keep the baler area clean, organized, and free of obstructions. Ensure materials are stored and stacked safely to prevent accidents or material damage.
- Professionally communicate with waste and recycling vendors as needed
- Communicate with Production regarding proper recycling sorting for all materials.
- Safely operate a stand-up or sit-down forklift to transport materials throughout the facility.
- Stack and organize materials in designated storage areas according to company procedures.
- Report damage of product, damage of forklifts, or any unsafe condition to management immediately
- Follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Follow all cGMP guidelines and all SOPs/Wis.
- Operate a forklift in a safe and efficient manner to retrieve or store material
- Operate forklift in compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Keep work area clean, orderly, and inspection ready
- All other duties as assigned by Manager
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and perform repetitive tasks.
- Comfortable working in an environment that may be noisy, dusty, and require PPE.
- Primarily manufacturing/recycling floor, with exposure to machinery and materials for recycling.
- Must be able to bend, reach, twist, grasp items, lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs. Anything above 50 lbs. requires secondary assistance.
- May include shifts, weekends, and overtime depending on production needs.
- Ability to work outdoors in fluctuating weather condition year round.
