Job Duties:
- Supervise and support the team responsible for obtaining prior authorizations.
- Monitor daily work queues to ensure timely processing of authorizations and prevent scheduling or care delays.
- Enforce productivity, quality, and turnaround time standards
- Review and resolve escalated authorization issues, including urgent/stat requests and complex payer requirements
- Partner with scheduling teams to ensure alignment between authorization status and appointment readiness
- Collaborate with revenue cycle leadership to reduce authorization-related denials and improve clean claim rates
- Ensure compliance with payer guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies
- Maintain knowledge of payer-specific rules, medical necessity requirements, and authorization platforms
- Support onboarding and ongoing training of team members to ensure consistency and accuracy
- Conduct regular audits of authorization quality and documentation
- Develop and maintain and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) for authorization workflows
- Partner cross-functionally to improve end-to-end patient access and reimbursement outcomes
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred
- 3+ years of experience in healthcare prior authorizations, radiology/imaging preferred
- 1+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorization processes, and payer requirements
- Experience working with radiology systems (RIS), EMR, and payer portals preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of imaging services and medical necessity criteria
- Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding as it relates to authorizations preferred
- Ability to manage high-volume workflows with competing priorities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to identify trends and drive solutions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work cross-functionally
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and healthcare systems
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team in a fast-paced environment
